Arie
Lipsky
Conductor Arie Lipsky is has established himself
as an exciting conducting talent. He is recognized for outstanding
musical achievement, extraordinary conducting ability and skillful
rehearsal technique. He is also highly praised for his creative programming
in a variety of formal and informal concert settings. His versatility
has been widely demonstrated throughout the symphonic repertoire and
his engaging rapport with audiences has made him an attractive concert
favorite.
Arie was born in Israel where he received extensive
training as a cellist and as a flutist. At the age of nine years he
won his first of several prestigious musical competitions after which
he began to appear in concert throughout Europe.
Mr. Lipsky subsequently began his serious study of composition and conducting. His
mentors include Semyon Bychkov, Yoel Levi, Kurt Mazur in conducting, and
Pablo Casals and Leonard Rose on cello.
Mr. Lipsky became Music Director of the Ann Arbor
Symphony in 1999-2000. He has also served as music director of the
Ashland (Ohio) Orchestra for 6 years, and was resident conductor of
the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for 12 seasons, where he was responsible
for classical subscription concerts, Pops, and special events.
Lipsky has conducted major orchestras in the United
States, Israel Canada and Russia. In July of 1995 he began an extensive
recording project of four new CDs in Lithuania that include all of
the Schubert overtures and concertos by Bruch and Sierra.
Arie also remains active as a cellist and chamber musician. In 1996 he became
cellist with the New Arts Trio and is in residence at Chautauqua Institute during the summer.
